Our chiropractic team, led by Dr. Kaitlyn Pellerine and Dr. Steve Berkstresser, has years of clinical experience helping people just like you on their journey to health and wellness.

Our Team
Dr. Kaitlyn Pellerine, Owner & Chiropractor
Dr. Kaitlyn graduated Cum Laude from New York Chiropractic College and International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. She is a native Haligonian and received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Dalhousie University. These studies sparked her interest in biomechanics, the human body and a holistic approach to healthcare.
Dr. Kaitlyn has a decade of experience as a personal trainer and fitness instructor, specializing in aerobics and weight training. She received clinical experience at many locations during her internship in Buffalo, NY serving the underprivileged, geriatric, general and student populations. In addition to treating adults with various chiropractic techniques, Kaitlyn’s professional practice will focus on maternal health during pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic.
Between her undergraduate and doctorate degrees, she traveled for one year to Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. She is passionate about educating her patients on the importance of a healthy nervous system. During her free time she enjoys hiking, swimming, playing music and spending time with her husband, Dr. Steve, and beautiful twins, Hannah and Hunter.

Dr. Steve Berkstresser, Owner & Chiropractor
Dr. Steve Berkstresser has been committed to improving the health and lifestyle of his patients since 2010. His dedication began at New York Chiropractic College where he received several awards and graduated with honors.
After graduation Dr. Steve has taken numerous post-graduate courses and seminars with emphasis on lifestyle modification, biomechanics and wellness. First practicing in Virginia, he relocated to Halifax in 2013 and has been helping patients ever since. Dr. Steve continues to educate himself to better serve his patients.
With skill and compassion, Dr. Steve treats his patients with a comprehensive approach, taking time to listen to their individual concerns and providing them with specific customized solutions to their health care needs. Outside of Sound Chiropractic, Dr. Steve enjoys spending times with his family, nature and classic cars.
Nicole Gaudet, Office Manager
Nicole started working at Sound in 2015, and has become known as the friendly face that welcomes our patients to our office.
Prior to working at Sound, Nicole worked in the hospitality service industry for 10 years. In 2014, Nicole graduated with honours from NSCC’s Tourism and Hospitality Management program and in 2017 she graduated with honours from Mount Saint Vincent University's Bachelor of Business Administration program with a major in Management Studies.
When she’s not keeping our patients laughing at the front desk, Nicole loves being outdoors, spending time by the water, camping, listening to music and visiting her hometown of Inverness to spend time with friends and family.
Nicole also loves animals, so feel free to bring your dogs into the office so she can play with them!
Lisa Hadley, R.Acu, D.Acu
Lisa found her passion with nature and herbal medicine early in life and after raising a family she pursued a degree in holistic medicine. Lisa graduated with honours from the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2015. She is in good standing with the Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of Nova Scotia. She acquired a certificate in Sound Therapy in 2016 and is currently expanding her education in fertility and women's health.
Lisa enjoys working with clients to achieve balance utilizing various therapies such as acupuncture, acupressure massage, fire cupping, guasha and foot reflexology. She also counsels clients on proper nutrition and self-care. She has seen much success in treating acute and chronic pain, repetitive strain injury, headache, migraine, stress and anxiety, along with all sorts of digestive and other issues.
Shallon Vickers, Registered Massage Therapist
Shallon Vickers has been a massage therapist for 15 years, working in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. She graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in 2003 with specialties in pregnancy, neurological and sports massage clinics.
Over the years, she has continued to expand her services to include Deep tissue, relaxation, Fire and Ice Cupping, Guasha and Indian Head Massage. In 2017, she became a certified Rapid Neurofascial Release Specialist – one of only 150 across Canada.
She has worked along-side chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopaths and physiotherapists. Shallon will be the perfect addition to our wellness family.
Rose Whyte, Registered Massage Therapist
Rose Whyte graduated from the Massage Therapy Program at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy – specializing in pregnancy, neurological and arthritis treatments. She is continuing to expand her services, most recently becoming certified in Cupping and Indian Head Massage. She is also currently studying Foot Reflexology and Reiki. This coming year she plans to complete her TMJ mastery course.
Rose aspires to specialize in the area of migraines and chronic head and neck pain. She enjoys working with a variety of people from a simple relaxation massage to a chronic pain treatment. Every treatment is unique and special, and she loves working with the client to find which treatment will give them the best results.
Josephine Prendergast, Reception
Josephine has 10 years of customer service experience. She has been studying biology for the past few years, and will be returning to school to complete her (BSc) in psychology. She’s originally from Dartmouth but spent a few years working in the south shore area and has recently moved back to metro. She’s family-orientated and loves getting to know clients. When she’s not in the clinic or studying you can usually find her keeping up with hockey or at the beach any time of the year.
Darcie Smith, Reception, Billing & Accounts
Darcie has been working at Sound for over a year, but has worked with Kaitlyn for over 8 years. You may not see her often because she usually work from home, but she comes into the clinic whenever she is needed. Since graduating from NSCC’s Financial Services program in 2007, she has been working on and off in accounting and bookkeeping.
Darcie was born and raised in Lunenburg and loves to spend time on the south shore with family and friends. She has two boys (ages 4 and 3) and a Texan rescue dog (Sadie Rae) with her husband, Corey. When not working, Darcie likes to explore with her boys, read, walk, work out, do yoga, eat sushi and enjoy a glass of wine!
